The International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) issued a special edition brochure Thursday that summarized its case for remaining on the Olympic program.
The brochure was mailed to every member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and was made available online on FILA’s website.
The brochure supports FILA’s continuing efforts to Save Olympic Wrestling and offers several points for consideration.
They include that wrestling was an original Olympic sport, wrestling is a pure sport, wrestling is a global sport with more than 177 national federations on six continents, wrestling is for everyone – children and adults, men and women, boys and girls – at all levels of skill.
According to the brochure wrestling is evolving. FILA is actively making changes to make the sport more popular for athletes, spectators, sponsors and the media, while attracting and energizing a new generation of fans.
The IOC will decide wrestling’s inclusion in the Olympic Program in a vote by members of the IOC in Buenos Aires, Argentina on September 8.
