Several softball players have been chosen to participate in the Athlete Ambassadors program and to complement the BackSoftball Campaign, with representation from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania. Eight of the dozen athletes are Olympians.
The International Softball Federation (ISF) will be hosting the Athlete Ambassadors at its world headquarters in Plant City, Florida sometime in January. As well as being further educated on the BackSoftball campaign, they will receive tutoring on dealing with the media, especially in relation to the Olympic reinstatement efforts, said a press release.
Although the ISF already has an Athletes Commission that meets every other year at its Congress, the press release says this initiative is the most aggressive in putting softball players at the forefront of the steps being taken to get the International Olympic Committee (IOC), at their October 2009 session in Denmark, to vote to reinstate the sport for the 2016 Summer Games.
