Softball teams from three continents are taking part in the Men’s and Women’s Open and Master’s competition at the Maccabiah Games in Ramat Gan, Israel, where 7,500 athletes will compete at what is considered the third largest sports event in the world.
This year’s softball competition will include teams from Argentina, Canada, Israel, Mexico, the United States and Venezuela.
At the event the Israel Softball Association will be promoting the BackSoftball campaign for the sport’s inclusion in the Summer Olympics.
International Softball Federation President Don Porter said, “the Maccabiah Games have been a notable date on the softball calendar for many years now and we are proud to continue being a part of them. Our sport is a part of 15 different multi-sports Games and this is truly unique because men and women from a range of age groups get to take part. This is a perfect example of our sport being accessible to a wide range of participants”.
