Security at the entrances of more than 30 railway stations will be increased ahead of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
The Moscow Times reports a statement from the Transportation Ministry that a “selected number of passengers” will have their luggage checked and screened before taking a train.
High-speed trains between Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Vyborg are involved, while several stations in the Far East and Volga river regions, as well as major stations in southern cities such as Sochi, will also be affected.
Also, the sports ministry has reportedly drafted a decree to attach background checks to all Olympic attendees. After obtaining security approval, ticket holders would have to receive special registration cards.
