Quebec, Canada – With 66 days to go, London 2012 is “now delivering the Games” Chair of the organizing committee Seb Coe said to a small group of reporters at the SportAccord Convention in Quebec Tuesday.
“There are no big issues to discuss”, he said now that the Torch Relay is underway across the United Kingdom and the Olympic flame is in his team’s custody.
The next 66 days will be for “the refinement and the modification if necessary, the finishing touches, the small details that make the difference between a good and a great Games,” he explained.
Nearing the Games and ultimately their delivery must come with great satisfaction for Coe who has led the charge since the London Games were just a dream during the bid process in 2004. But the pressure is on admits Coe who said he is used to this kind of thing but other members of the organizing committee may not be.
“This isn’t something that particularly phases me.
“I’m rather used to it,” The Olympian said, but he tells his team “look after each other, be kind to each other, spot the people in your team that may be under pressure.
“I’m proud of how my team at LOCOG responded, and made the journey.”
But for Coe, this is his way-of-life.
“It’s a very obvious thing to say, that I’ve never had weekends, probably not since the age of 14.
“I’ve never lived a particularly normal existence; I know that, so for me this is what I do.”
