Infants To Pay Their Own Way At London Summer Olympics

Babies who don’t have tickets to the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games won’t be allowed in, even if they had not been conceived when their parents purchased their own tickets.

Parents who bring their infants to the Games without a valid ticket for them will reportedly be refused entry.

London 2012 said the reason for the rule has to do with licensing, and health and safety at venues.

A London 2012 spokesman said the Olympics helpline has received calls from pregnant women and expectant fathers whose babies will just be a few weeks old when the Games begin, and have been told they can try and buy an extra ticket for their chosen event, otherwise the infant will be prevented from entering the venue.

Additional tickets are to go on sale in April offering parents the chance to buy extra tickets for their children, but Locog cannot guarantee availability.

For selected events “pay your age” tickets may be available where children ages one and under would be charged one pound.

To add a “pay your age” ticket to an existing account, parents would have to place a phone call. They won’t be able to buy those tickets online.
