Swiss deputies in the canton of Vaud have given full backing to Lausanne’s bid for the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
The state assembly voted in favour of contributing eight million Swiss francs ($9 million) to the proposed operational budget of the Games and is offering financial guarantees in case of any shortfall.
The vote on Tuesday was 101 in favour, one against, and 15 abstentions.
In March the city of Lausanne voted in favour of the same amount. The federal government will also contribute to the estimated budget of 36 million Swiss francs ($40 million) if the bid is successful.
Brasov, Romania is the other city competing with Lausanne for the 2020 Youth Games.
Both cities must submit detailed bid files to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) next week. The host city for the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games will be selected in July or August 2015.
