Vancouver 2010 Launches Whistler Program

Vancouver’s next phase of its marketing campaign to host the 2010 Winter Games will feature stickers, posters and tattoos; and the Whistler Bid Champion Program.

The program incorporates decals for storefront windows and static stickers for vehicles to help raise the profile of the Games in Whistler, the site of several venues should Vancouver win the bid.

Maureen Douglas, Whistler’s director of community relations for the bid said, “Basically what we are trying to do is create a forum for businesses and individuals and people in the community to have some tools to show their visible support for the bid”.

The program is also developing a general information presentation for community groups or large companies.

Meanwhile, a group protesting leaky condos in Vancouver is calling on British Columbia to take advantage of the bid to provide aid to homeowners stricken by the problems.

A spokesperson for the group said the government should ask for $500 million, equivalent to the amount that the federal government offered the Toronto waterfront for its Olympic bid.

She said the government should be taking steps to avoid a recurrence of leaky condos on new housing that will be built leading up to the Games.
