USOC Evaluation Head Says All Four U.S. Bids Are “Marvelous”

Charles H. Moore, USOC site evaluation chairman, disputed a story in the Washington Post that said San Francisco and Washington were the apparent front runners in the race to become the U.S. candidate for the 2012 Summer Games.

According to today’s Washington Post, Moore said none of the four bid cities could be called a favourite to win the bid. “There is absolutely no credence to the statement that any city’s bid has moved ahead of others as the favourite to become the United States candidate city for 2012. We’re not even there yet in terms of the process or because of any actions we have taken. There is no member of our task force who could make this statement with any degree of truth, whatsoever.

“All four bids are marvelous, and the daunting task for beginning to rank them against each other remains still ahead of us, period”.

Earlier, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg denied the original report in the Post that New York has lost ground in its bid to host the Games. “We have talked directly to the U.S. Olympic Committee, which has asked us to state categorically that it is not true and did not come from them. If you want my personal opinion, I remain as optimistic about our chances to be the U.S. representative as I have been about other things, like school governance”.
