Toronto 2015 Names Board of Directors, Search For CEO

Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games has named a 12-member Board of Directors.

The 12-member board includes Marcel Aubut, President-elect of the Canadian Olympic Committee, Michael Chambers, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee, Carla Qualtrough, BSSc, LLB; President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee, and Chris Rudge, CEO and Secretary General of the Canadian Olympic Committee. Roger Garland, a former hotel executive, is chair of the board.

According to a press release the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games will create thousands of construction jobs, improve sports infrastructure, and bring 250,000 athletes, coaches and tourists to Ontario.

The board will select a CEO in the coming weeks. When asked by GamesBids.com what criteria will be used to select a CEO Garland said, “whoever is going to be running this whole project will have to have a very good understanding of development, construction, getting infrastructure in place, running projects to budget and on time. It requires someone with quite a broad business background, and an understanding of event management would be useful as well”.

Garland said a search team is already recruiting and has compiled a confidential list of interested applicants.

Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario said, “Ontario is excited about the prospect of hosting the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. The Games will leave a lasting legacy of top-notch sporting facilities, and we will build stronger ties with the people of the Americas and that Caribbean”.

Toronto’s Mayor David Miller said, “Toronto is looking forward to showcasing our city to all the international athletes and visitors alike. The depth of talent and experience on the HostCo Board will assure we are able to put on a Pan Am Games that will allow us to do exactly that”.

Michael Chambers, President, Canadian Olympic Committee and HostCo Board Member said, “the foundation set with this board will be an important resource to the 2015 management team and its goal of hosting an exceptional Games which will leave a tremendous legacy for sport and the Greater Toronto Area community”.

Carla Qualtrough, President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee, Paralympian and HostCo Board member added, “our board brings together a range of perspectives and experience that will ensure the 2015 Games are inclusive and celebrate diversity for the benefit of all athletes, spectators and everyone involved”.
