“Sochi World” At Vancouver 2010

Sochi 2014 unveiled Tuesday the Russian Sochi 2014 House at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Sochi2014.ru World Russky Dom, which has been shortened to Sochi World, will introduce visitors to the Vancouver Games to the city of Sochi and a “modern, hospitable and open Russia”, said a Sochi 2014 press release.

It will be the official headquarters of the Russian delegation in Vancouver.

Sochi 2014 President and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko said, “as well as being a memorable event for everyone, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will be special for Sochi 2014 as it assumes the mantle of next host city for the Winter Games. In keeping with every aspect of Russia’s first ever Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Russian Sochi 2014 House will serve as a gateway to the future, into 2014, the city of Sochi, the Krasnodar Region and Russia”.

Sochi World is located in the Museum of Science on the Gulf Coast of Vancouver near the main Olympic and Paralympic venues. It will be open from February 11-28 and will welcome anyone wanting to join Russia’s celebration of the Vancouver 2010 Games, said the press release, bringing together well-known athletes, sports fans, journalists and officials from around the world.

Exhibition halls and booths will provide information on Sochi 2014 and the Krasnodar Region. Events include a cultural program, including “legendary” taste of Russia’s “famous cuisine”, and performances by renowned artists from Canada and Russia.

The Press Center will host official Russian delegation events as well as meetings with athletes and guests of the Games; and a fully equipped work area will be available for accredited Sochi media.

The event program includes meetings with celebrated Russian athletes, photo calls, competitions, special activities with official Games partners, film screenings, excursions, and sports event broadcasts.

According to the press release the biggest highlight for Sochi 2014 will be the ceremony marking the handover of the Olympic flag to Sochi.
