Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco On USOC 2016 Olympic Bid Short List

At a United States Olympic Committee (USOC) press conference today in Denver, Colorado, it was announced that Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco will remain on the short-list of candidates eligible to be nominated to bid for the 2016 Olympic Games. Houston and Philadelphia were dropped from the list.

USOC Chairman Peter Ueberroth, International VP Bob Ctvrtlik and CEO Jim Scherr were on hand at the announcement and planned to outline the next steps in the 2016 Candidate Evaluation Process.

The original five cities entered the process earlier this year and met with the USOC on at least two occasions to discuss their plans and make presentations.

The USOC has not yet decided whether to submit a bid and will make that decision “before the end of the year”. The IOC deadline for nominations is next summer and the final vote will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2009.

More news on this developing story, including reactions, will be available shortly on GamesBids.com.
